i walked by these words everyday for over a month. i always wanted to take a photo, but i just kept putting it off. too cold, too rushed; it'll be there tomorrow. on my way to the doctor, i finally stopped to take the photo. when i walked by the next day, the words were gone. covered up. a friend told me that the words were simply meant for me... that once i saw them, REALLY saw them, and got my photo, they no longer needed to exist. pretty amazing, at least to me. xoxox

i love plants. a lot. like way too much. it's almost at the point to where i need to move because i love plants so much. i have no more room for them near windows. i particularly love succulents, and i have enjoyed growing a little collection of them.

my perfect plant corner. i was so happy and proud.

until...hank.

what's a hank? this is hank.

yeah, i know. he's precious, right?

wrong. he's a plant snatcher! a 5 month old succulent swiper! he gets a real odd joy out of uprooting my succulents and carrying them around the house. he climbs the shelf, swipes the plants, and leaves me with empty pots. i always find the plants around - under the shelf, in my bed, near my shoes, etc. needless to say, my plant area has been totally changed. but at the end of the day, i have this:

hey, that's me!

here goes. i'm laura. i go by the name "snow" when it comes to art, and i guess that's a funny story. i met a couple drug dealers on the street one day and that was their nickname for me. my skin is very fair. i guess they were tryin to get snow snow to buy some snow snow or something. fast forward about 7 years. most people call me laura, but i do get snow, artbysnow, bee, etc. pretty much i got a lot of nicknames! i'm a 24-year-old who works in client relations by day and attends school by night. i'm on the path to obtaining my MD. doctor lady! it's a long, very grueling process, but i love what i study. on that tip, i love science. biology, biochemistry, astrophysics... you know, i think i'll always dream of being an astrophysicist. maybe someday i'll be one. for now i keep my eyes to the sky almost always.

it's that love of the 'larger than life' that draws me to hip hop. i love the confidence, attitude, intelligence, delivery, and wordplay present in really good hip hop. when it comes to the art i make, i pull a lot from the music i play during creation. a lot of my pieces are rooted in my deep love for hip hop, color, and clean lines. i work with paper quite a bit, and i think that comes from my love of street art. graffiti, stencils, wheat pastes, etc. can be up for years in some cases or a matter of hours in others. i love the idea of art being fleeting. i'm not of the mind that all art needs to be framed, cherished, and passed down from generation to generation. i work with paper because i love it, but i also love the idea that in 30 years, my art could be an imperfect recollection of a time in the past. kind of like a worn, faded tattoo or a memory. i enjoy that my art will grow old with us. i create art for the joy it gives me, and i sell art for the (hopeful) joy that it brings to others.

when it comes down to it, i'm just a girl trying to find her way in this crazy, busy world. this is me, my life, my art.

i've done this blogging thing before and didn't do so well. as jay-z says "i don't do too much blogging. i just run the town." ha. changing that. welcome, y'all.
